Book cover detail, "Who's Looking Out for You?" by Bill O'Reilly
Book cover detail, "Lies and the Lying Lars Who Tell Them" by Al Franken
Political Bestsellers
Story aired: Tuesday, October 14, 2003

The New York Times top ten non-fiction list this week is all politics.

Conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly is in first place, and his liberal arch-nemesis Al Franken is number two. So it goes, all the way down the list.

Lifestyle books once dominated non-fiction lists, but they've got a category all their own, leaving books not only remarkably political, but polemical. Paul Krugman and Molly Ivins on the left, Laura Ingraham and David Limbaugh on the right, all authors who get the blood boiling of people who disagree with them.

Is that anger the pulse of the nation beating on its bookshelves? Betsy Rider, the owner of Otto Bookstore in Williamsport, Pennsylvania joins Here and now to tackle that question.

Guests:
