U.S. Raids Tikrit
Story aired: Monday, November 17, 2003

On Saturday, two black hawk helicopters collided in the country's north, possibly after being hit by or trying to elude ground fire. Seventeen American soldiers died. On Sunday, an Arab television station broadcast a new audiotape said to be the voice of Saddam Hussein, urging an escalation of rebel attacks.

The U.S. continues to respond with greater displays of firepower than at any time since during the war earlier this year, while the U.S. seems to be also intensifying it plans to hand over more power in Iraq to Iraqis.

Carla Anne Robbins, The Wall Street Journal.
