Court Says Gay Marriage Ban Unconstitutional
Story aired: Tuesday, November 18, 2003

In a ruling that's been anticipated around the nation, and even around the world, the Massachusetts Supreme Court has concluded that the state cannot legally prevent gay couples from getting married.

The court stopped short of granting licenses, but the ruling is in favor of seven gay couples who had sued the state after they were denied marriage licenses. It's the latest in a string of victories for gay rights advocates.

Guests:

Laurence Tribe, Harvard Law School

Brian Camenker, president of the Massachusetts-based Parents' Rights Coalition and an opponent of same-sex marriage.
