Book cover detail, "Crocodile on the Sandbank" by Elizabeth Peters
Elizabeth Peters' Egypt
Story aired: Tuesday, November 25, 2003

Mystery writer Elizabeth Peters understands the allure of Egypt. Though she has written over 60 books, her most popular works feature Egyptologist and amateur detective Amelia Peabody Emerson. The character Amelia discovers ancient wonders and solves crimes while excavating in Egypt during the Victorian Era.

Recently, a group of Elizabeth Peters' fans gathered at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts to explore the museum's Egyptian collection, celebrating it's 100th anniversary. They also got to meet Elizabeth Peters and talk about their mutual love of the author and her main character, Amelia.

Like Amelia, author Elizabeth Peters loves Egyptology. She trained in the subject at the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute. Here and Now producer Emiko Tamagowa took the opportunity to tour the collection with her, and ask her when her love of Egypt began.

Guests:

Elizabeth Peters, author.
