According to the new book "Women Don't Ask: Negotiation and the Gender Divide," men are four times more likely to initiate negotiations, which translates into higher salaries and job promotions.

The authors say that If you don't negotiate on the first salary at a new job, then by the age of 60, you can kiss more than $500,000 dollars goodbye.
