Bishop Sean Patrick O'Malley (AP)
Boston Diocese Sells Property for Settlement
Story aired: Thursday, December 04, 2003

It is a long way from the poverty Jesus Christ is believed to have lived in all his life to the splendor of the Italianate mansion bishops of Boston have lived in for years.

Since the 1920s, the official residence of Boston's bishop has been an enormous, elegant building, graced throughout with marble and mahogany. But now, the church plans to sell off the mansion and the grounds around it to help defray an $85 million sexual abuse settlement.

Guests:

Eric Convey, The Boston Herald.
