Willie Colon
Latin Christmas Classics
Story aired: Monday, December 08, 2003

Music is a huge part of the holiday season. Classics return every year: Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Nat "King" Cole, Johnny Mathis, Elvis, and even The Chipmunks.

In recent years, you can add another name: Jose Feliciano. His "Feliz Navidad" has become a new standard, heard piped into the speaker systems of shopping malls from coast to coast and all over Latin America.

That said, there is much more Christmas music than Jose Feliciano in the Spanish-speaking world. In the past thirty years, two salsa CDs have become seasonal classics: Willie Colon's 1972 recording "Asalto Navideno" and El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico's 1985 recording "Nuestra Musica."

Guests:

Jose Masso, Latin Music critic.
