Earthquake Relief in Iran
Story aired: Thursday, January 15, 2004

The world's gaze has shifted from Bam, Iran, but international aid workers are still trying to put survivors, and the town, back together.

Between 30,000 and 32,000 people died in the Bam earthquake, and the infrastructure was devastated, with most buildings in the city leveled and an ancient mud-built citadel, a world heritage site, destroyed.

Only 24 hours after the December quake, a medical team from Boston was deployed to Bam. Among them was Dr. Thea James, a member of the International Medical and Surgical Response Team, and an emergency physician at Boston Medical Center.
