Israel Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (AP)
Sharon Stands Firm Despite Bribery Scandal
Story aired: Thursday, January 22, 2004

The indictment yesterday of an Israeli real estate mogul could have political implications for Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon

Israeli prosecutors say that David Appel paid Ariel Sharon, Sharon's son Gilad, and Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert huge sums of money in exchange for their help with major real estate deals in the 1990s.

Though formal charges have not been filed against Prime Minister Sharon, the opposition Labor Party is already calling for his resignation, and charges could be coming soon.
