Album cover detail, "Alan Lomax's Southern Journey Remixed"
Tangle Eye
Story aired: Tuesday, March 02, 2004

Most of us probably associate the remix with dance cuts featuring sampled classic pop songs. The remix takes on a whole new sound with the debut release of the New Orleans-based group Tangle Eye.

The CD is called "Alan Lomax's Southern Journey Remixed." Alan Lomax is one of the greatest archivists of American roots music, mostly in the Deep South, in the 1940s and 1950s.

Lomax recorded everything from legends like Leadbelly to anonymous work songs, sung by prisoners on a penal farm. The band Tangle Eye remixes old music with an entirely new spin.

Guests:

Scott Billington of Tangle Eye.
