The Letter
The Letter
Story aired: Wednesday, March 03, 2004

Last January, thousands of residents of Maine descended on the town of Lewiston to rally against white supremacists who came to town after the mayor wrote a letter.

The letter was addressed to Lewiston's growing Somali refugee population, asking them to tell their friends to stop moving there. The mayor said he honestly thought the town's resources were stretched, but the Somalis were worried.

The new documentary "The Letter" chronicles these events and their aftermath using news clips, interviews, and footage of the killing of American soldiers in Mogadishu, Somalia over 10 years ago.

Guests:

Ziad Hamzeh, filmmaker, "The Letter"
