Military delegates walk through Beijing's Tiananmen Square (AP)
Chinese Doctor Calls for Tiananmen Apology
Story aired: Monday, March 08, 2004

A Chinese army doctor who became a national hero last year for exposing the government cover-up of the SARS epidemic has again challenged the Beijing government to come clean. This time, Dr. Jiang Yanyong has voiced his opinions concerning a day in modern Chinese history no one in China's dared criticize before: the massacre in Tiananmen Square in 1989.

Dr. Jiang Yanyong recently sent a letter to the National People's Congress saying it's time to admit that the brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protests in June of 1989 was a mistake.

Guests:

Matt Pottinger, the Wall Street Journal.
