MA Lawmakers Consider Gay Marriage
Story aired: Thursday, March 11, 2004

Four weeks after they broke up in deadlock, Massachusetts lawmakers will reconvene Thursday afternoon to consider a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

At this hour, hundreds of demonstrators both for and against gay marriage are gathered across the street from the Statehouse on the Boston Common.

This all stems from a ruling late last year by the state's highest court. The ruling will allow same-sex couples to begin marrying in May. Some lawmakers are trying to stop that law from taking effect with an amendment to the constitution banning gay marriage.
