India-Pakistan Cricket Face Off
Story aired: Thursday, March 11, 2004

India and Pakistan have fought several wars since 1947 when the countries were partitioned. And since the two countries became nuclear powers, the world's watched with particular dread each time tensions have worsened or actually flared into fighting.

A peace process has been underway since last fall. Indian and Pakistani officials have negotiated troop redeployments and examined border issues with the question of the disputed region of Kashmir always foremost.

Now the latest sign of reconciliation has to do with cricket.
For the first time in 15 years, India and Pakistan will play each other in cricket, a sport that's a national obsession in both countries.

Joining us in the studio are two journalists, one Pakistani and one Indian, who explain how a mere game can amount to much, much more.

Guests:

Pervez Bokhari

Amara Durani
