Story aired: Monday, March 15, 2004

An Israeli businessman has been arrested in connection with an order of high-speed electrical switches that were shipped from a manufacturing plant in Salem, Massachusetts through South Africa and the United Arab Emirates and which ended up in Islamabad, Pakistan.

It also touched off an investigation into the international black market for nuclear devices.

In small numbers, the switches from Massachusetts are purchased for hospital technology. In large numbers, the devices can be used to detonate nuclear weapons.
