Ireland
The Real Ireland
Story aired: Wednesday, March 17, 2004

The idea originated from a conversation in a bar in Ireland in 1979. The inspired notion to travel 1,800 miles around Ireland sounds sane enough until you add the journey was to be undertaken by donkey cart.

Kevin O'Hara came up with the idea. He was 29 at that time, and an American Vietnam veteran then shadowed by anger and pain. Kevin spent eight months traveling around Ireland in a donkey cart. He thought it might ease his mind.

Kevin's travels are documented in the new book, "Last of the Donkey Pilgrims: A Man's journey through Ireland."
