Medicare Reform Cost Confusion
Story aired: Thursday, March 18, 2004

Democrats and conservative Republicans say the White House at best misled them to win support for Medicare legislation.

The bill was passed last November with supporters touting budget estimates of less than $400 billion.

New reports say some backers knew all along the number was closer to $551 billion and that a top Medicare actuary was told to cover up that estimate or lose his job.

Guests:

Sheryl Gay Stolberg, The New York Times.
