Shiite Cleric Al Sadr Moves to Najaf
Story aired: Tuesday, April 06, 2004

Clashes continue in many parts of Iraq today between coalition troops and supporters of militant Shiite cleric Moqtada Al Sadr.

American authorities pledged yesterday to arrest Al Sadr "without warning." Al Sadr is now in the holy city of Najaf, where he has pledged to fight to the death.

Clashes in mainly Shiite neighborhoods of Baghdad have killed at least three Americans and an unknown number of Iraqis today.

Coalition troops have also been fighting in several Southern Iraq cities that are mainly Shiite controlled.

British troops in Amarah killed fifteen Iraqis today, and the Italian Defense Ministry reports 15 more Iraqi deaths and 12 Italian troops wounded in a gun battle in Nasiriyah.
