President Bush (AP)
Bush and Cheney Appear before 9/11 Commission
Story aired: Thursday, April 29, 2004

When President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney appeared together before the 9/11 Commission this morning, it was not under the glare of television lights, nor with a backdrop of stenographers, nor accompanied even by the whir of a tape recorder. Aside from private notes made by the commissioners, there will be no official record of the meeting.

The Bush administration says today's joint appearance does not constitute "official testimony." Instead it is "a private meeting" which doesn't require an official transcript.

Guests:

Professor Alan Lichtman, presidential historian at American University in Washington, DC.
