Gay Marriage in Connecticut and Rhode Island
Story aired: Tuesday, May 18, 2004

Same sex marriage is now legal in Massachusetts, but so far attorneys general of only New York and Rhode Island have indicated their states would recognize the marriages.

A patchwork of laws makes it difficult to predict what might happen next. Gay marriage opponents are hoping for passage of a federal Constitutional amendment which would define marriage as between one man and one woman. Advocates, on the other hand, foresee same sex marriage bans fading away just as laws banning interracial marriage did over the past century.

Guests:

Professor Ron Krotoszynski, Washington and Lee University.
