Swan Lake
Swan Lake Vision
Story aired: Wednesday, June 02, 2004

A rising star in the ballet world is messing with a classic. Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon is re-working most of "Swan Lake" for Pennsylvania Ballet's 40th anniversary season. In traditional productions of "Swan Lake," Prince Siegfried tragically falls in love with Princess Odette, who's been turned into a swan by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart. But the ballet has changed some since its 1877 premiere

There's even been a swan lake with bare-chested male swans and a gay prince. So what's a choreographer to do? Christopher Wheeldon joins us on the line from Philadelphia.
