Sharon Opponent on Possibilities for Peace
Story aired: Friday, June 18, 2004

Here are two constants in Israeli politics: the question of the Palestinians and political corruption scandals.

And sometimes the two run in tandem.

This week, Israel's attorney general dropped bribery charges against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Some says this may be good news for peace in the Middle East. With the scandal behind him, they say Sharon can now push ahead on his plans to withdraw Israeli forces and settlers from Gaza, with support from those who wouldn't back him under the cloud of a court trial.

One of Sharon's staunchest political opponents, Yossi Beilin, head of the Yahad party, shares his views on Sharon and the prospects for peace with the Palestinians.

Guests:

Yossi Beilin, head of the Yahad Party and author of the new book "Path to Geneva."
