At Least 69 Dead in Iraq Attacks
Story aired: Thursday, June 24, 2004

A series of coordinated attacks across Iraq today killed at least 69 people and wounded more than 270. Three American soldiers were among the dead. Police and government buildings in five cities were targeted. The group led by Abu Musab Al Zarqawi has claimed responsibility.

Iraq's interim Prime Minister Iyad Al Awi said the attacks were meant to foil the democratic process. They come less than a week before Iraqis assume control of their country.
