Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire" (AP)
Marlon Brando Dies
Story aired: Friday, July 02, 2004

When his tough but wounded image hit the big screen in the 1950s in movies such as "The Wild One" and "A Streetcar Named Desire," it was unlike anything seen before.

As he said many years later "acting was just hustling." It seemed effortless. But he was a well known student of method acting, and was perhaps more tortured than he let on.

Marlon Brando earned a total of eight Oscar nominations and won for his performance in "On the Waterfront" and for his portrayal of Don Vito Corleone in "The Godfather."

While he is no longer with us, the image of Marlon Brando hunched over a motorcycle, in a leather jacket and white t-shirt, will remain.

Marlon Brando died in a Los Angeles hospital at the age of 80.
