Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. John Kerry. (AP)
Kerry Campaign Check-in
Story aired: Monday, July 05, 2004

Boston Globe reporter Glen Johnson, following John Kerry in Iowa, reports on comments on abortion the senator made.

John Kerry has supported abortion rights but on a personal level opposes the practice.

Johnson says this is the first time John Kerry has said that life begins at conception.

He says Kerry has been criticised by conservatives for saying he believes in the Catholic faith while not adhering to the church's teachings about abortion.

Johnson says while Kerry has been in more conservative states in recent weeks Kerry has been making more mentions of "values."
