Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon (AP)
Presbyterian Church Backs Divestment From Israel
Story aired: Friday, July 16, 2004

The Presbyterian Church has voted to begin a process that could result in selective divestment from companies that do business with Israel. That resolution came this month at the church's annual general assembly.

With nearly three million U.S. members and combined pension fund and foundation assets estimated at $7 billion, the Presbyterians are the first major Christian denomination to call for such a move.

The Reverend Victor Makari is the Presbyterian liaison to the Middle East. He joins us from his office in Louisville.
