Group Urges Caution in Intelligence Hearings Story aired: Wednesday, August 04, 2004
Now that the 9/11 Commission has issued its report which included a recommendation for a national counter-terrorism center and a new, national intelligence director. It's up to congress to shake up Washington's vast spy bureaucracy. What that might mean, exactly, is being aired again today on Capitol Hill.
At a hearing this morning, Republican Congressman Sherwood Boehlert of New York expressed his frustration at the pressure lawmakers feel to reform the intelligence system quickly.
Boehlert says 15 separate congressional committees will examine how to improve intelligence collection and analysis. Which offers some hint of how complex a process it is and how long it will take.
