Insurgents fight in Najaf (AP)
Al Sadr Forces Fight U.S. in Najaf
Story aired: Thursday, August 05, 2004

A two month old truce that was tenuous to begin with is on shaky ground today with fighting between Iraqi insurgents and coalition forces.

An American helicopter was shot down in Najaf. Elsewhere in the country two Iraqi police officers were killed and a suicide car bombing south of Baghdad killed at least five. Also, fighting in the relatively calm city of Mosul in Northern Iraq has left at least 22 people dead.
