When Pakistan announced it had captured several key Al Qaeda figures last Friday, there was open speculation in the United States that the news was timed to draw attention away from Democratic candidate John Kerry's speech the night before.

True or not, similar rumors are swirling through Pakistan that the government wants George Bush reelected, that it produces Al Qaeda captives on demand, and that Osama Bin Laden himself lies dead in a Pakistani mortuary waiting to be unveiled in an October surprise.

Guests:

Adil Najam, professor of international affairs at the Fletcher School at Tufts University.
