So many choices, so little time and so much summer theater. Given all the competition, Ontario, Canada is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to promote its annual Stratford and Shaw Festivals this year, hoping to attract more locals and Americans to bask in a bit of the Bard and other great playwrights.

Bill Marx recently traveled to our neighbor up north, and he joins us in the studio to talk about the state of two stages, the Stratford and Shaw Festival.

Bill's Arts column on Canadian theater:

All too often, summer theater in America means under-rehearsed productions of a Shakespeare hit or a lightweight classic cast with actors who aren't interested in sweating too much. That's why savvy theater lovers should head up to Canada and take in the Stratford and Shaw Festivals, large ensemble companies that prove that, despite the heat, artistry needn't take a vacation.
