President George Bush (AP)
The Other Republican View on Gay Marriage
Story aired: Thursday, August 26, 2004

The Republican Party strengthened its official position on gay marriage last night. A panel consisting of mainly conservative delegates approved language that calls for a Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and it also opposes legal recognition of gay civil unions.

This comes on the heels of Vice President Dick Cheney's remarks on the campaign trail in Iowa. Cheney said that he is opposed to a Constitutional ban and feels that gay marriage should be left to the states.

Yesterday, we spoke to the executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, a group that supports gay marriage. Today we're joined by Pat Truman, senior legal advisor for the Family Research Council.

Guests:

Pat Truman, senior legal advisor for the Family Research Council.
