A wounded boy is carried after he escaped from a school in Beslan, Russia (AP)
Muslims and Terrorism
Story aired: Monday, September 13, 2004

Did the brutal school siege in southern Russia earlier this month provoke an unusual degree of criticism from the Muslim press and clerics around the world?

Take this statement, which appeared in a prominent Arab newspaper: "Not all Muslims are terrorists," said the writer, but "it is exceptionally painful that almost all terrorists are Muslim."

Or this, from Rami Khouri of Lebanon's Daily Atar: "All of us today are dehumanized and brutalized by images of Arabs kidnapping and beheading foreign hostages."

Guests:

Rami Khouri, The Daily Star.
