Bush nominates Congressman Peter Goss as CIA chief. (AP)
Porter Goss Hearings Underway
Story aired: Tuesday, September 14, 2004

President Bush's choice for the new head of the CIA is facing a Senate hearing today.

A key concern among lawmakers is whether Florida Representative Porter Goss can do the job without letting partisan politics get in the way.

Democratic Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia set the tone for the hearing by grilling Goss on his nearly 16 years as a Republican congressman. Senator Rockefeller went on for nine minutes, reviewing Goss's record and John Kerry's record.

Goss, a former CIA operative, said in his opening statement that he understands the importance of providing information to Congress.
