Views on Charter Schools
Story aired: Tuesday, September 14, 2004

Two recent studies come to strikingly different conclusions.

There are about three thousand charter schools in the U.S. right now, but the number could increase dramatically under President Bush's No Child Left Behind policy, which embraces the charter school concept as one alternative for failing public schools.

That said, the issue isn't clearly partisan. After all, Bill Clinton and John Kerry are also for charter schools.

Guests:

Caroline Hoxby, Harvard University

Howard Nelson of the American Federation of Teachers
