Haitian Community Sending Aid to Storm Wrecked Haiti
Story aired: Thursday, September 23, 2004

Tropical Storm Ivan is once again threatening the Gulf Coast, remnants of the storm which came ashore last week as a level four hurricane and caused wide spread damage in Louisiana, Alabama and Florida, have reformed in the gulf, and now appear headed for the coast somewhere between the mouth of the Mississippi in Louisiana, west to Sargent, Texas.

Meanwhile, Floridians have been told to prepare for what may be the fourth hurricane to hit Florida this season, Hurricane Jeanne took a turn in the Caribbean and headed towards the state's east coast. Jeanne left a path of destruction on the island nation of Haiti last weekend, at least a thousand people have been killed there by flood waters, and some 1200 are reported missing, hundreds of international aid workers are now in Haiti, trying to dispense food, water, and medical attention. The city of Boston has a long connection to Haiti, the Haitian community in Boston is the third largest in the U.S. The community is pooling its resources to send aid to the area, especially to the worst affected city of Gonaives.
