In 1960, Catholics mobilized to help elect the United States' first Catholic to the presidency, John F. Kennedy. Since that election, prominent Catholics say their influence in politics, both local and national, has waned.
Most Catholics, who represent the largest denomination in the American electorate, do not want to go to the polls. Now, a new grassroots group of lay Catholics is working to energize a Catholic voice in American politics.
