Afghani officials count ballots (AP)
Afghan Elections
Story aired: Monday, October 11, 2004

An independent commission is being set up to answer questions raised by some of the candidates in this weekend's first ever direct Afghan election.

Millions of Afghanis went to the polls this weekend in an election that was mainly peaceful, with only a few isolated incidents of violence, and voter turnout was high.

Still, there were some calls to nullify the elections by candidates opposed to President Hamid Karzai and concern about the delivery of ballots.
