US Casualties the Iraq War
Story aired: Thursday, November 11, 2004

The main American military hospital in Germany is reporting it is feeling the effects of the battle for Fallujah. The hospital has had to expand its wards to handle the additional wounded being flown in from Iraq, including 227 wounded flown in over the last 3 days.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon's official count, as of yesterday, of wounded and dead in Iraq was 1149 deaths and 8458 wounded.

Critics, including officials of the American Legion, say the Pentagon's accounting methods routinely underestimate the number of wounded in battle, and say that there are almost 17,000 injured men and women who do not show up on casualty reports.
