Amelia Alvarez as Young Sonia and Ivan Quintanilla as Jose in the Huntington Theatre Company's world premiere production of Sonia Flew
"Sonia Flew" - American Neverland
Story aired: Monday, November 15, 2004

"Sonia Flew" is a based-in-fact new play about a Minneapolis mom who must deal with the news that her son has decided to enlist to fight in Afghanistan. It's also the story of a trip the mother took over 30 years ago.

Sonia was a teenager in Castro's Cuba when she joined a migration of Cuban children, called Pedro Pans, or Peter Pans, because they were flown out of Cuba by parents fearful of what the future would hold, and flown into the Neverland called America.

"Sonia Flew" is the work of Cuban American New Englander Melinda Lopez.

Guests:

Melinda Lopez, playwright.
