Mother of Son Killed in Iraq Story aired: Tuesday, November 23, 2004
Another Marine with ties to Massachusetts has died in Iraq. Lance Corporal Dimitrios Gavriel was killed on Friday in combat near Fallujah. The 29-year-old, known as "Dimmy," went to high school in New Hampshire, and later attended Brown University, before working as an investment banker on Wall Street. After he lost two friends in the attacks of September 11th, he decided to join the Marines. Gavriel's parents now live in Haverhill. His mother Penelope says Dimitrios was a born leader.
