"Striptease: The Untold History Of The Girlie Show " by Rachel Shteir
Live and Lurid, the Striptease History
Story aired: Wednesday, December 01, 2004

The striptease as entertainment or as art has been scrutinized, criticized, and glorified but until now it hasn't received a serious in-depth look. Oxford University Press has just published the book "Striptease: The Untold History of the Girlie Show," which takes the reader from its Vaudeville roots to its decline in the sexually liberated 1960s. The book is written by Rachel Shteir, head of the Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism Program at the Theater School of DePaul University.

Recently, Here & Now theater critic Bill Marx spoke to Rachel about her book and research.
