Deserter Charges U.S. Commits War Crimes

A former army paratrooper who fled to Canada rather go to war in Iraq is fighting for refugee status in Canada. Jeremy Hinzman left his post in Fort Bragg, California in January. This week, his case came before the Canadian Refugee Board. He could be sent back to the states to face a military tribunal if the board denies his request.

Jeremy Hinzman is currently living in Toronto with his wife and son, and joins Here and Now by phone from his home.
