Rice Confirmation Hearings

Condoleeza Rice, who is President Bush's nominee to be the nation's next secretary of state, is before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today for her confirmation hearings. Confirmation is all but assured for Rice, who was nominated to succeed Colin Powell.

The 50-year-old Rice is considered to be a scholar on the Soviet Union. She's a close confidante of President Bush and currently serves as his national security adviser.

In addressing the committee, she said she would focus on mending ties with allies who parted with the Bush administration over the war in Iraq.

Joining us is Leon Fuerth, former national security advisor to Vice President Al Gore and professor of international affairs at George Washington University.
