Shanley Trial Underway
Story aired: Tuesday, January 25, 2005

Opening statements begin today in the criminal sex abuse trial of defrocked priest Paul Shanely. Shanley is charged with child rape and indecent assault and battery on a child.

The Shanely case may well hinge on the issue of what's called "recovered memories."

The alleged abuse took place in Newton about 20 years ago; the accuser says he remembered the incidents in 2002.
