Good Medicine
Story aired: Thursday, February 03, 2005

Every year in the United States, some 340,000 people break their hips. Most of these are elderly women with osteoporosis. It's a serious issue, a hip fracture in an older person increases the chance of another fracture, but also often leads to complications, resulting in death. But what is shocking is that many of these patients post-surgery never get treated for their underlying disease. Now a new study may offer some ideas about how patients can get proper care.

Joining us to talk about it is internist and medical reporter, Dr. Terry Schraeder.

Guests:

Here and Now's medical reporter, Dr. Terry Schraeder.
