Obain Attouoman
Teacher Fights Deportation
Story aired: Friday, February 11, 2005

Immigration laws became a lot more restrictive -- and some people who had minor visa violations found themselves facing deportation back to their home country.

Obain Attuouman is one of them. Attuouman, who teaches math in a public high school in Boston, is originally from Ivory Coast. He was supposed to be deported today because four years ago he missed a hearing to request political asylum here. This week he was granted a last minute reprieve, but he now has only three weeks to find a way to stay here, or find a new country that will take him.

Here and now's Athena Desai caught up with Attouoman at his high school.
