An Iraqi prisoner clutches the bars of his cell in the Abu Ghraib Prison (AP)
More Reports of Inmate Deaths
Story aired: Wednesday, March 16, 2005

Twenty six prisoners in U.S.-run prison facilities overseas have been killed under suspicious circumstances since 2002. Only one of those deaths took place at the now renowned Abu Ghraib facility.

The deaths, which took place inside and outside U.S. detention facilities, have largely been classified as homicides --- though Army officials say some of them were justified.

The information has sparked outrage among human rights groups, who are calling for a full-scale inquiry into prison facilities in Iraq and Afghanistan, but military officials say authorities are already investigating every case.

Guests:

Doug Jehl, who is covering the story for the New York Times.
