Dancers, "Slaughter on 10th Avenue"
A Conversation with Mark Morris
Story aired: Wednesday, March 16, 2005

The Mark Morris dance group is currently on a national tour, and we thought we'd take a look back at a dance that Morris created in 2002 for the centenary of Richard Rogers. "Slaughter on 10th Avenue" was the big ballet number in "On Your Toes." Original choreographer George Balanchine made it a story of gangsters and a stripper. But Mark Morris had a completely different take. We caught up with Morris at a theater on Tenth Avenue in New York as he and television director Bill Cosel videotaped the dance for PBS.
