Same-Sex Debate Injected into School Book Dispute
Story aired: Tuesday, May 03, 2005

A Lexington Massachusetts father spent one night in prison, and now awaits a June 1st court appearance on charges of trespassing at this son's elementary school.

David Parker refused to leave a meeting he was having with officials from the Joseph Estabrook Elementary School, because he says he wasn't getting satisfactory answers about whether or not gay parenting issues would be brought up in his son's kindergarten class.

Parker says it all started when his son brought home a bag of books on diversity. One was titled "Who's in a Family" and it features two illustrations of same-sex couples and their children.

Guests:

William Hurley, superintendent of public schools in Lexington Massachusetts.

David Parker, Lexington parent arrested for trespassing.

Robert Skutch. His book "Who's in a Family" sparked the controversy in Lexington.
