Some hurricane evacuees arriving in other states are being allowed to bring their pets with them, but Humane Society officials say there may still be thousands of animals trapped in waterlogged New Orleans.

Officials are attempting save the abandoned animals because they fear the stranded pets will pose a massive health problem by spreading disease if they die.
